Sample Street closed on South Bend’s west side due to fire

A large fire resulted in the closure of Sample Street on the west side of South Bend.

The blaze was reported around 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, in the 2200 block of Sample Street.

Emergency crews blocked traffic between Olive and Walnut Streets while smoke from the fire wafted high into the sky.

More than a dozen fire truck responded and remained on scene for several hours dousing the blaze.

There was no report of any injuries. There was no immediate word about the cause of the fire.
