Google says NASCAR driver Ryan Newman was the most-searched-for athlete of 2020.

The South Bend native was in the national spotlight after surviving a horrific crash on the final lap of the Daytona 500 in February.

The 43-year-old driver was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Google says search rates soared after the crash, as people looked for updates of Newman’s condition.

Newman, miraculously, made a quick recovery, and checked out of the hospital just two days after the crash.
