Sheriff’s Office: Intoxicating substances may factor into crash in Cass County

Two people are recovering after a crash in Cass County that may have been fueled by intoxicating substances.

That’s the word from Sheriff’s investigators after the crash, around 5:40 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27.

Deputies were called at that time to the area of M-60 and Pine Lake Street in Howard Township on the report of a vehicle that struck a tree.

On scene, sheriff’s deputies found a 20-year-old South Bend man and a 19-year-old Dowagiac resident who suffered injuries from the collision.

Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The circumstances that led to the collision are still under investigation.
