Traffic stop becomes drug and weapons arrest

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a South Bend man after firearms and drugs were found in his vehicle.

Twenty-nine year-old Demonte Campbell of South Bend was pulled over Friday afternoon around 2:30 after a LaPorte County deputy saw him merging into a lane without signaling, and tailgating another vehicle. He was pulled over near U.S. 20 and CR 450 E.

He was arrested for allegedly carrying a handgun without a license and allegedly dealing marijuana with a prior conviction, as well as traffic citations. He also allegedly gave a false last name when he was pulled over.
