All-Electric Fire Truck visiting South Bend on Wednesday

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

The South Bend Fire Department will have a special visitor from the future on Wednesday, May 12.

The Department will host Rosenbauer America, Sentinel Emergency Solutions, and their “Revolutionary Truck” or RT. It’s the first ever fully electric fire truck.

The truck will be on display Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Luther J. Taylor Senior Fire Training Center on East Sample Street. It’s part of a nationwide tour of the futuristic truck.

Over a decade of research and technological advancements led to the creation of the RT, which Assistant Chief Todd Skwarcan said “could potentially be a great future addition” to the South Bend Fire Department.

“I’m sorry, we couldn’t make it to your fire our battery is dead.”
also
“I’m sorry you can’t use your air conditioning/heating/coffee pot we’re recharging our truck.”

Apparently, the future is stupid and dark.

I don’t think range is an issue, but running those big water pumps pumps for hours on end might be problematic…
