Suspect in alleged acid attack formally charged, due in court Monday

The man charged in connection with the St. Joseph County Special Victim Unit investigation into an acid attack is scheduled for an initial bail hearing on Monday, May 17.

Saturnino Velasquez, 52, faces multiple counts of battery, including domestic battery and battery on a person less than 14 year-old old, in connection with the attack that allegedly happened on the morning of Wednesday, May 12.

The woman who was kit by acid was transferred to a burn unit at a hospital in Fort Wayne after first being taken to a hospital in South Bend.

Velasquez was arrested on the day of the alleged attack.

He is charged with:
Count I: Aggravated Battery a Level 3 Felony
Count II: Domestic Battery a Level 6 Felony
Count III: Domestic Battery Resulting in a Level 5 Felony
Bodily Injury to a Person Less than 14 Years of Age
Count IV: Domestic Battery on a Person Less a Level 6 Felony than 14 Years Old
Count V: Domestic Battery a Level 6 Felony
Count VI: Domestic Battery a Level 5 Felony
