Three people from South Bend killed in crash on I-80 in central Illinois

Three people from South Bend were killed in a traffic crash along Interstate 80 in north central Illinois.

The collision happened around 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, about 45 minutes east of the Quad Cities area.

According to Illinois State Police, a Ford Mustang driven by a 26-year old South bend man was traveling westbound along I-80 near milepost 40 and  struck the back end of a semi-tractor trailer that was stopped because of traffic.

The crash killed the driver of the Mustang, along with two passengers in his vehicle, a 22-year old female and a one-year old female. Their identities have not been released at this time.

The crash shut down I-80 about 120 miles west of Chicago for three-and-a-half hours.
