Pedestrian struck by a car in South Bend

A pedestrian was hit by a car on the south side of South Bend.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, on S. Ironwood near Ireland Road. The driver initially left the scene, but returned.

According to police, the driver thought a rock had hit the vehicle. When the saw police lights in the area, they called dispatch to find out what happened. After finding out that a pedestrian was hit, they returned to the scene and cooperated with officers.

WNDU reports the pedestrian who was struck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
