A former color guard coach at LaPorte High School is charged with child seduction.

Lorenzo Medrano, 61, coached the school’s color and winter guard in 2019. That’s when police say he inappropriately touched a 16-year-old girl who was on the team.

According to court documents, the victim told investigators Medrano touched her inappropriately for weeks before and after the team would practice. She said he also asked her out to the movies and, once invited her to take a shower in his hotel room. Other team members corroborated the victim’s statements.

Medrano was fired in March 2020.

Medrano denied touching the girl and said nothing physical ever happened between them.

If convicted, he could spending as much as two-and-a-half years behind bars.
