The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies celebrated their 35th anniversary this month.

The week of September 20 marked 35 years, and the Kroc Institute observed the milestone with a panel of speakers and a reception on Tuesday. A short film detailing the history of the institute also debuted.

The Observer reports that the Kroc Institute was founded in 1986 by former University President Father Theodore Hesburgh and philanthropist Joan Kroc as a response to the threat of nuclear annihilation during The Cold War. The Kroc Institute at the University of Notre Dame has been devoted to pursuing questions of peace, justice and violence.
