An Elkhart woman has admitted to stabbing her husband to death.

Blanca Hernandez, 32, pleaded guilty to the murder of Alejandro Vergara, 35, back in May. It happened after an argument that was overheard by the couple’s children inside the home.

Police found Hernandez and Vergara in the basement of the home in the Dunlap area.

At the time, she claimed he tried to attack her with a knife, but that he cut himself. She was charged after her account of what happened didn’t match evidence at the scene.

The Elkhart Truth reports if the judge accepts the deal, Hernandez will get a 55-year sentence with 10 years suspended. She’s due for sentencing in late January.
