A bill that could help clear up some traffic congestion in northern Indiana has passed out of a Senate committee and will get a vote in the full Senate.

If you drive U.S. 30 and 31, you probably know the highways need improvement.

The Senate may now allow $300 million of American Rescue Plan money to be spent on improving those highways.

“I can’t tell you how grateful I am because, especially with the U.S. 31 Coalition, how many times, time and time again that project has been put off when it was supposed to begin,” said Sen. David Niezgodski, on the Senate floor on Thursday.

The original plan, before a compromise, dedicated $900 million to those thoroughfares.

So, they’re going to limit congestion by putting in more construction zones?
