Man, 22, arrested after stabbing, car theft in Elkhart County

The suspect who police in Elkhart County say stabbed a 73-year-old man, then stole his car, has been identified.

Samuel Byfield, 22, was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder, robbery, battery with a deadly weapon, theft, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Investigators were called to County Road 23 near County Road 22 early Monday afternoon, Feb. 14, where they found the victim.

The man’s car was involved in a crash after the theft.
