South Bend is converting thousands of street lights to LED to boost safety and cut costs.

I&M crews have already started installing new LED lights, according to The South Bend Tribune. About 75% of the 3,000 lights owned by the city have already been converted. Another 9,000 lights belong to I&M and the city pays fees for them.

The new lights are more energy efficient, meaning South Bend will reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint.
