An invasive ant with a powerful sting has been found in Indiana for the first time.

Timothy Gibb, a Purdue University entomologist, says the Asian needle ant was discovered in Evansville. That’s the farthest north the ant has ever gone.

According to Gibb, the ant is the first ant in Indiana that has a stinger and a venom sac.

Gibb adds that the Asian needle ant’s sting can be lethal — but in most cases, the sting just hurts very badly.
