Republican lawmakers in Michigan are pushing to repeal sales and use taxes on diapers for children and adults.
One of the representatives behind the proposed exemption says even a modest increase in the price of diapers can make a difficult situation even worse, according to The Detroit Free Press.
The National Diaper Bank Network says 1 in 3 families in the US struggled to afford diapers before the pandemic, and the financial stress from the pandemic has seen diaper banks handing out 86% more supplies than they had before on average.
GOP lawmakers in Michigan have introduced bills that would exempt all diapers from the state’s 6% sales tax, as was done months ago on a number of feminine hygiene products.

Oh this is unbelievable really, first a National Diaper Bank, are you serious? Then a tax on diapers to boot?! People stop being lazy and make your own diapers and wash them and hang them on the line like your grandmothers and those before her did also. I babysat in the 70’s and I used cloth diapers!!!!! Made up problem solved.
