Fatal motorcycle accident in Steuben County on Tuesday

A fatal motorcycle accident in Steuben County claimed the life of one man Tuesday night.

Indiana State Police say Tyler Szapkiw, 28, of Fremont, was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson in the area of 2200 block of West Orland Road at a high rate of speed when he missed his turn and drove off the roadway striking a utility pole. Police the pole snapped in half from the crash.

Szapkiw was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Officers say he was unconscious and suffering from a head injury when they arrived. He was flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne, where he later died from his injuries.

Police are still investigating.
