Two 16-year-old boys in custody for man’s shooting death in Goshen

UPDATE: Two 16-year-olds have been taken into custody for the shooting death of a man in Goshen.

The teenage boys were taken into custody late Saturday night, April 23, after investigators say they admitted involvement in the shooting that killed Santino Garcia, 27.

The shots were fired around 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, at the 7-Eleven in the 2200 block of Elkhart Road.

Garcia was found suffering multiple wounds and was taken to the hospital where he died.

The 16-year-old boys are being held without bond in the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center. Formal charges are expected this week.

An autopsy is set for Tuesday.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man died after he was shot outside a gas station in Goshen.

Police were called just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, to the convenience store in the 2200 block of Elkhart Road when they found the victim suffering several gunshot wounds to his back and side.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with life-threatening injuries and later died.

There was no immediate word of any possible suspects, arrests or information about what led to the shooting.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
