Reports of active shooter in Rochester, rumor on Sunday

If you heard or saw reports of an active shooter situation in Rochester, Sunday, it was just a rumor.

It stemmed from a domestic situation at a home on Madison Street in Rochester in which a woman and two children were hiding from a man with an AK-47 style rifle.

When officers entered the home, they found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The rumor about an active-shooter situation began to circulate when the nearby R and P Store closed, due to the situation at the home.

A store employee told customers to leave due to a threat.

One of the customers told workers at another business there was an active shooter at the store.
