The State of Michigan is seeing a shrink in its population.

Michigan was the only state that lost population in the census covering 2000 to 2010. The state lost 13,000 people to COVID-19 in the period between July 1 2020 and July 1 2021.

Bridge Michigan reports that during that year, 77 counties in the state reported more deaths than births, compared to 49 in the full year before the pandemic.

Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph Counties all experienced slight population declines of less than 1%.
