Man arrested after trying to steal fuel from fleet truck

A man was arrested after trying to steal fuel from a fleet truck in South Bend.

It happened Sunday night, July 17, when an officer was patrolling in the 4100 block of South Michigan Street.

The officer says he saw a blue truck parked with three white fleet trucks.

He detained the man, Charles Lawson.

ABC 57 News reports that one of the trucks had damage to its fuel tank and was leaking.

Lawson told police he was stealing fuel by drilling a hole in the tank.

Lawson was arrested on charges of theft and criminal mischief.
