The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is currently handling a homicide investigation in the 1100 block of N. Brookfield.

Just before 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, officers were called to respond to a possible shooting victim near Brookfield and Vassar.

Upon arrival, they discovered Zachary Claxton, 23, of Edwardsburg dead.

One neighbor nearby told WNDU he noticed a bullet hole in the back of his pick-up truck. That’s when he went up to the home where the shooting happened and saw the body inside and called police.
