A Goshen woman pleaded guilty to causing the death of her friend in a crash.

The one-vehicle crash happened on County Road 108, east of County Road 131 in July.

Officials say that the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. 19-year-old Ruby Barcenas Medina was driving.

The passenger, 17-year-old Juan Avalos, died at the scene.

The Elkhart Truth reports that her original charges of causing death while driving a motor vehicle were dismissed.

Now, Barcenas Meidna will serve her three-year sentence on probation.
