The bicyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on State Road 2 was a retired priest who served for many years in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
Father Jan Klimczyk, 67, observed his 40th jubilee last year, according to Today’s Catholic.
His retirement from active ministry in 2017 took him to Holy Family Parish, South Bend, where he still celebrated daily mass, Today’s Catholic reported.
Before that, he served at St. Patrick’s Parish in Walkerton. He also served for many years at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in New Carlisle.
Father Klimczyk died around 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, on State Road 2 just east of the U.S. 20 bypass after being struck by a vehicle.
So far, there is no description of the vehicle that was involved.

So sorry to see a life lost.
Many bicyclists in South Bend have no head lights or tail lights on their bikes.
I have swerved to miss a few in the past month.
It is a city requirement. SB Police should issue $50 tickets.
Especially around the ND and Eddy Commons area.
May God have Mercy on both Fr. Klimczyk and the one who struck and killed him.
