Sometimes Indiana will get rain or other adverse weather as part of remnants from hurricanes that begin in the south. That does not appear to be the case with Hurricane Ian.

“We have a real low shot that we might get some rain showers south and east of the city (Indianapolis). I expect we’ll stay dry, but you can’t completely rule it out just yet,” said Joe Nield, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Once Hurricane Ian moves past Florida, Nield thinks what is left of the storm will likely move east of Indiana. But he also says, given the instability and predictability of Ian, all possibilities are on the table.

Low temperatures have been in the 30s and 40s in some spots across Indiana early in the mornings recently, which means there may be some patchy frost at times.

“If there are any plants or anything sensitive that you want to preserve, typically folks use some plastic sheeting that you can get a hardware store to cover those up. You can do that or just bring them inside,” said Nield.

Even though it may feel chilly over these next few mornings, temperatures will warm up by the afternoon.

“We’re going to start a bit of warming trend. It won’t be anything too abrupt, just something to get us back into the 70 degree mark by the weekend and into early next week,” said Nield.

Below freezing temperatures are not expected.
