Farmers impacted by lack of rainfall

Farmers harvesting their crops near major waterways in the Midwest are being impacted big time by a lack of rainfall.

Grain farmers, for example, are now trying to sell their product and have it shipped off.

But, restrictions on how much grain barges can haul on the Mississippi River have grain prices plummeting, meaning Hoosier grain farmers are not making as much.

The restrictions are in place because of record low water levels in the Mississippi due to lack of rain.

Barges are having to haul less at a time so they don’t bottom out of the river bed.

That’s causing a bottleneck in the supply chain.
