GoFundMe account created for family of teen killed in crash on County Road 38

A GoFundMe account has been set up to pay for funeral expenses for one of three people killed in a crash in Elkhart County…

The collision happened early Sunday morning, on County Road 38 near County Road 17. 14-year-old Joseph Garrison was a passenger in the vehicle that went off the road.

Garrison and the others in the car were ejected.

Garrison’s mother says the family needs the money to help pay for the teen’s funeral.

The collision happened shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, when Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators say the driver, Christian Hartpence, 18, of Lapaz, went off the north side of the roadway.

His vehicle reportedly hit a power pole and a structure, which caused it to roll before coming to rest on its wheels in the roadway.

All of the the occupants were ejected. Hartpence died at the scene. Of his passengers, Joseph Garrison, 14, of South Bend suffered severe head trauma and died at South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Another passenger, Brandon Shetterly, 19, of Constantine, died at the scene.

A 17-year-old Goshen girl was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with pain.

A 30-year-old Goshen woman was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital with severe head trauma.

Police say none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts. Other factors into the crash are still being investigated.
