Michigan is becoming a haven for rock climbers, putting another feather in the state’s tourism cap.

It’s being viewed as another option that help support Michigan’s 20 billion-dollar yearly tourism industry. Bridge Michigan reports that rock climbing is gaining traction as outdoor enthusiasts explore new ways to experience nature. The sport gained a toe-hold in the Tokyo Olympic Games, during which the word “climbing” peaked in Google searches.

The state feels most people don’t realize the climbing options offered in Michigan, especially in the Upper Peninsula — which has more than 300 documented roped routes. The Lower Peninsula also offers climbing crags.
