More than $1.4 million headed to Elkhart County for road, bridge improvements

More than $1.4 million is headed to Elkhart County communities to accelerate road and bridge improvements.

The local funding from the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is for road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements, guardrail replacements and signage.

It can also can cover material costs for chip sealing and crack filling operations. Area grant recipients include Bristol at $495,000 and Wakarusa at $983,000.

Smaller municipalities need to provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while large communities need to provide a 50 percent match to receive the grants.
