The University of Notre Dame held a prayer service for peace in Ukraine Thursday Night.

The event was held at the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, and was led by University President The Reverend John Jenkins.

Jenkins said the US has an important role in supporting Ukraine, and it’s important to feel connected with the country and pray for it. Friday was the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion, a war that has killed at least 300,000 people, displaced nearly 6 million, and caused devastation to communities around the country.

Each year, Notre Dame hosts exchange students from the Ukrainian Catholic University, including 28 of them this school year.
