The Elkhart Police Department is investigating an incident where a man allegedly struck a female with a vehicle and then was shot by unknown male suspects.
It was around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when officers were called to the 1000 block of Center Street on the report of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 20-year-old man in the area of Cemetery Street and Middlebury Street suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s). Medics transported the man to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, officers spoke with individuals in the 1000 block of Center Street, and called an ambulance for an 18-year-old woman who was struck by a vehicle.
Officers found a crashed Ford Focus in the 1000 block of Center Street with apparent bullet hole(s). The initial investigation indicates that the man and woman were allegedly arguing when the man got into car, put it in reverse and struck the woman and struck a parked truck.
The investigation also indicates that two unknown male suspects then arrived at the Center Street location in a vehicle. One or both suspects allegedly fired at the Ford Focus while the man was still behind the wheel.
The woman was also transported to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
