Indiana ranks 14 in most lead-lined water pipes

A report by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that Indiana has more than 250,000 lead-lined water pipes, ranking the state as having the 14th most in the country.
The report also presents a 20-year roadmap with a cost of $11.7 billion to replace the pipes in Indiana.
The state government provides $100 million a year, on average, for low-interest loans and grants to utility companies to replace lead pipe service lines to avoid a significant rate hike for customers.
