The Ford Motor Company has shifted their attitude about AM Radio into ‘Reverse’.

On Tuesday, Ford CEO Jim Farley announced that his company has reconsidered a plan to remove AM radio from future vehicles in the U.S. and will include the technology in newer model cars.

On Twitter, Farley said he had spoken with policy leaders about the importance of AM radio and its role in the Emergency Alert System.

The owners of recent Ford EVs that didn’t come with AM radio will be offered a software update to add it.

The National Association of Broadcasters commended Ford for their committment to keep AM in their vehicles, and expressed their hope that other automakers will follow suit “in the interest of public safety.”
