Mich. Supreme Court Justice returns to work this week after mental health break

A State Supreme Court Justice in Michigan is heading back to the bench this week.

Justice Richard Bernstein took a four-week absence from the state’s highest court in order to receive mental health care. He announced Tuesday that he’s headed back to work after being treated for situational depression.

The Detroit Free Press reports that during his time away he missed a special court session in Cheboygan late last month, and missed oral arguments two weeks ago. Chief Justice Elizabeth Clement said he was following along over the court’s livestream, however.

Bernstein thanked his fellow Justices for “their grace, patience and compassion.”
