More Fighting Irish students studying abroad than ever before

A record number of Notre Dame students have won scholarships to study abroad.

The university says 53 students were awarded Gilman Scholarships during the academic year, which encompasses the fall and spring terms as well as the upcoming summer session. The previous record, set the year before, was 44.

The Gilman Scholarships are sponsored by the State Department and cover tuition, room and board, books, local transportation and more up to $5000. Students who study a critical-need language like Russian can apply for additional supplemental money.
