A South Bend man accused of a deadly car crash while drunk driving has entered a not guilty plea.

It happened at the intersection of Lincoln Way West and Sherman Avenue on Friday, June 9. Officials say that that the driver, 49-year-old Walter Allen, tried to pass another car going eastbound.

That’s when he ran into a car that was heading west.

Allen’s passenger, 53-year-old Donnivan Allen, died from his injuries. The other driver suffered minor injuries.

Allen is facing charges of OWI causing death and OWI causing serious injuries. His bond is set for $5,000 cash. Allen is expected back in court on June 20.

How can he say he is not guilty, when he was clearly drunk at the scene of the accident ?
