Group trying to save Clay High School from closure

(Tommie Lee/MNC)

A group is trying to save Clay High School from closure.

They call themselves Save Clay, Inc. and they’re planning to be at the South Bend School Board meeting on Wednesday, June 21.

It’s a nonprofit group.

They say that the public was misled about the process that led to the board’s vote in favor of a Facilities Master Plan to close the school and make other changes to the district.

Those include changes to grade configuration and feeder patterns at schools.

Board members say that the plan makes sense financially, since there is lower enrolment. Save Clay says that the change will lead students to choosing other schools.

They should form a new school corporation, and break away from the South Bend Community School Corporation. There was talk of doing this a long time ago.

The residents in Clay Township and German Township, certainly live a whole different lifestyle than the people in the city limits.

They are trying to break especially since SBCSC does not support Clay township schools…Eggleston closed, Clay Intermidate (6-8) closed, Clay High to close 2024.

Everyone who can get away from the SBCSC probably should.
