Great Lakes shipping is on pace with last year’s shipping numbers.

Ships carrying around 12 million tons of cargo have passed into the Great Lakes through the end of June, which is roughly the same as last year.

The Times of Northwest Indiana says They’re on their way to ports including the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor and the Port of Chicago.

Around 2-point-3 million tons of iron ore  and an estimated 769,000 tons of coal have been shipped on the Great Lakes through the end of last month.

And, steel slab cargo grew more than 10 times to 193,000 tons.
