Last week’s legislative session in Michigan put abortion bills squarely in the spotlight.

Bills received their first hearing on Thursday that would remove numerous restrictions on abortion access in the Great Lakes State. Bridge Michigan reports that those include elimination a 24-hour waiting period, and allowing state funds to be used for Medicaid abortions.

The current legislation also doesn’t include a call to drop the state’s parental consent law for minors seeking an abortion.

The legislature is considering an 11-bill package known as the “Reproductive Health Act,” and has doctors split on support or opposition.

No votes were taken on the bills Thursday and they remain in committee.
