Indiana University is being sued in a case that became a touchstone in the national debate about abortion.

IU’s Dr. Caitlin Bernard went public about an abortion she provided to a ten-year-old rape victim last summer. The IU Health system claimed Bernard did not violate patient privacy laws, but the state’s Medical Licensing Board ruled later Bernard had violated HIPPA laws.

Now, the Indiana attorney general is suing the IU Health System in federal court accusing them of botching its own investigation and punishing other employees for violating the same privacy laws. Rokita himself is facing misconduct charges by the state Supreme Court related to the case.
