Suspect arrested after Friday night shooting that injured one person in South Bend

A suspect has been arrested and charged after an exchange of gunfire that occurred during a large outdoor gathering on South Bend’s west side.

It was the gathering that took place on Friday night, at a large party near Carlisle and Huron Streets.

As officers responded, 45-year-old Roberto Ramirez arrived at Memorial Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives determined Ramirez was at the party and fired a weapon into a large group of people.

He suffered a gunshot wound after he left the scene.

Ramirez is charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun.

He’s being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
