A man charged with aggravated battery after the alleged assault of an 81-year-old woman now faces a murder charge, instead.

That’s because the victim, Judy Annis, of South Bend, died due to injuries suffered during the assault.

The suspect, Randy Scott, 68, was arrested, on Sep. 23, at the home where he had been living with the victim.

Annis was hospitalized and passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Scott also faces a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

If convicted of all charges, he could face more than 85 years in prison.
