Attorney General Todd Rokita says it was in the best interest of the community’s safety that Anthony Hutchens’ be tried as an adult.

Hutchens is currently in a juvenile facility within the Indiana Department of Corrections.

In a brief issued Monday morning, Rokita stated that he believed the juvenile court did not abuse its discretion when it waived the case to adult court.

He also agreed when the court stated that Hutchens would need rehabilitative treatment beyond what could be provided by the juvenile court.

The court will be looking over arguments of the state and Hutchens’ legal team and will make a decision on the appeal.
