(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

No word, yet, about the cause of a fire at a home in South Bend.

Crews were called just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, to the home in the 3700 block of Surrey Lane.

Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy smoke coming from the chimney, eaves, and attic space.

The occupants got out of the home. Crews found them in a car across the street from the structure.

There was a hole found in the floor inside the structure.

A pet guinea pig passed away. A pet turtle was saved. There were no human injuries reported.

The Red Cross was called to help the family.
