A 22 year-old Bristol man was killed in a crash shortly after 12 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

The Elkhart Police say Braxton Smith was spotted by a squad car traveling at a high rate of speed on California Road. Soon after, the suspect vehicle crashed into another car and multiple other objects at the intersection with North Nappanee Street.

Two of the three occupants of the vehicle that was struck declined treatment, but a 33 year-old woman complained of pain and was treated at the scene.

Smith was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Two vehicles at the nearby Lochmandy Motors property were damaged by debris in the crash.
