There were no injuries reported on Monday when an inbound freighter had a mechanical issue and became stuck in the St. Joseph River harbor.

Harbormaster Mike Moran told WSJM that the Manitowoc was inbound when it developed an issue with its bow thruster, a sideways propeller used for maneuvering in narrow areas. The freighter struck the fencing around the railroad bridge and became stuck.

An inspection determined that the bridge was not damaged and the ship was able to dock a short time later, unloading more than 15,000 tons of gravel. The ship was scheduled to undergo maintenance and testing before departing for Lake Michigan.
