Charges filed for man accused of crashing into SBPD officer

Andrew Mitchell, who was charged in the crash that injured South Bend Police officer Terry Redden, has been charged with the following:

Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Driving While Suspended, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person with a Prior Conviction.

Mitchell will be held without bond until his initial bail hearing.

The collision happened on Wednesday, Jan. 3, on the US 20 bypass between Michigan Street and Ironwood Road.

Investigators say Mitchell hit a vehicle that then struck Officer Redden who was called to the scene to investigate a prior crash.
