Liberty Tower moves into final phase of renovation process

The tallest building in South Bend has moved on to the final phase of a lengthy renovation process.

Liberty Tower has been open since 1971, and fell into mortgage foreclosure in 2011. The city has been a partner in the project to renovate the building, and just awarded a contract worth more than a million dollars to repair the concrete in the parking garage.

WNDU reports that a contractor will be creating 90 apartments on floors 17-23, and a public space is planned for the 7th floor with a bar or lounge. It’s hoped all of the work will be done by the end of 2025.
