It’s 55 years in prison for a South Bend man found guilty for the murder of his 3-year-old daughter.

Kardié Rose Weathersby was dropped off at a hospital emergency room with severe head injuries in October 2020. She died two days after arriving at the hospital.

At the conclusion of the bench trial, in December 2023, the judge found Shaver guilty of murder and aggravated battery, however, the aggravated battery count was not taken into account as a conviction due to double jeopardy.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office explained:

The judgment of conviction was entered on Count I, Murder. Count II, Aggravated Battery was not reduced to a conviction due to the prohibiting against double jeopardy. Since there was one victim, only one conviction can stand under the facts of this case. Therefore, the Court entered conviction on- and sentenced for the greater crime.
