International shipping season begins at Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor

(Ports of Indiana)

The Ports of Indiana-Burns Harbor has begun the 2024 international shipping season by welcoming the M.V. Jamno.

The bulk carrier arrived at the port after leaving The Netherlands on March 21, crossing the Atlantic, traveling the St. Lawrence Seaway, and unloading its cargo at the Indiana port on Friday, April 12.

The Captain was presented with the “Steel Stein” to commemorate the arrival of ocean vessels at the Lake Michigan port. The ship unloaded more than 6,200 tons of specialized steel products to Burns Harbor that will be used by local manufacturers.

The port handles more than 3 million tons of cargo each year, more than half of it steel-related.
